Its hard to describe my sound to people. You only have to listen to the different songs on here to see why. I hate to follow the pack or have people tell me I should be doing this or that because its whats hot. I just know I love to sing and songwrite. I am an artist with a love for all types of music and a passion for exploring my emotions through these different forms. I'm also known as the gutsy woman who mced her way into one of Britains hottest, and toughest dance scenes, taking on a male only music genre. Since then, my life has been hectic -touring the world several times, releasing my first album "Lyric on my lip" (Full Cycle UK-2004), Playing with a full live band, releasing "Do it for yourself" an independent promo CD, (unsigned-2006) and finding time to write songs for other artists and produce. Originally from a Dairy farm in New Zealand, I grew up under the shadow of a mountain near the sea -not your average place to find a wee girl listening to Hip Hop, Soul and Rock music, and writing songs and lyrics from as early as age ten. My goal was never one of fame and fortune, I just wanted to take my music to the world. After I left for the big city I discovered Trip Hop and Indie music, then Raving, and by accident fell in love with Drum and Bass. As a natural born performer and lyricist it seemed only natural to me to try MCing, and thru good connections and the right encouragement, I became NZs most prolific DnB MC of the time. It was while mcing in Melbourne, Aus, I met Roni Size and worked up the courage to bust some impressive lyrics in his ear. He invited me to the UK to work with him and the Full Cycle crew. 3 months later I arrived in the UK turning up on his doorstep with several scruffy notebooks full of lyrics and a hunger to record. Thru dedication and enthusiasm, For the next 4 years I rode with this crew touring the globe MCing and finding time to record my album "Lyric on my Lip". The FC crew gave me a lot of great opportunities and fantastic experience, but after 4 years of writing, recording, touring with the live band not to mention still MCing, I was exhausted! I felt the time had come as a songwriter first and foremost, to try something different and decided to go back to my roots of writing over slower, more Hip Hop, Soul and accoustic orientated beats to show my versatility and talent for lyrics. The result has been my latest project, an independent promo mix CD Do it for yourself; Featuring Sincere, Mr Ti2bs, Dynamite MC and Blak Twang, with production from First Man, and of course Roni Size. This slice of 'urban soul' also contains the popular acoustic version of 50 Cents '21 Questions' as performed on Jo Whiley's 'Live lounge' (BBC), plus a bonus 10 minute DnB mix of Tali classics, as mixed by DJ Bailey (1XTRA). Since the release of this CD I have guested on other UK Hip Hop MCs tracks, written and recorded guest vocals for DnB producers Bailey, DrumSound and BasslineSmith and US DnB producer Atlantic Soul, and I have been writing topline lyrics and melodies for other artists who maybe have the idea but not neccesarily the words to express themselves. This I love most of all and seem most comfortable doing. So whats next for Tali? I have already begun writing for my next project, but how it will evolve is anyones guess! I just know it will be another shift in pace and style, as I continue to write and record accoustic piano driven soul songs, electronica, DnB, MC, and produce my own music. Being a musician takes guts and determination, ambition and self belief. Although not every day is easy, the result is always worth it!
