There are not many artists that have created a single track that defines an era, but in Drum & Bass, Keaton—as part of The Usual Suspects—did just that with “Killa Bees,” the epochal single released on Renegade Hardware in 1999. Epitomizing the dark, intensely nervy sound of the late 90s, the single was in near-constant rotation in every corner of the Drum & Bass scene. Named Best Newcomers by Knowledge Magazine and thrust into the limelight virtually overnight, Keaton found himself in the enviable position of having entered the game on the top floor.
Nine years on, Keaton has released nearly 100 tracks on various high profile labels. His debut single on his own record label won a BBC Radio 1 single of the year award, he also made the first Drum & Bass track to make the A-list on BBC 1xtra, followed by a pioneering, genre pushing album made in the USA.
After years of constant shows around Europe, USA, Canada, Japan, Russia, Australia and New Zealand, in 2006 Keaton decided to expand his DJ skills beyond the Drum & Bass circuit. Feeling the typecast of one genre he decided it was time to showcase his influences, taking crowds on a diverse, eclectic journey through Hip Hop, House and beyond.
Entertaining crowds with his ambitious, eclectic sets, to hear Keaton play now emulates both where he's from and where he's at. Anything goes, with a thirsty love of music regardless of genre. Drum & Bass, Hip Hop, R&B, Soul, House, Garage, Broken Beat, Grime, Dub Step, Reggae, Dancehall, the list goes on. The identity can be found by his supreme selection, order and timing, slickly connecting songs and genres unexpectedly with perfect precision.
2008 Keaton decided to take his love of DJing House and Techno music a stage further. He lives between London and Berlin, surrounding himself in the very heart of the genres. He helped set up 'Church' a weekly Sunday day party at Herbal in Shoreditch London where he is resident DJ. Every set tells a story, taking the listener on a visual journey. With his open mind and clear vision his future is set to be utterly incendiary.
