Peshay

Peshay - real name Paul Pesce, born and raised in North/East London first came into the music scene in 1990, playing back to back with Dean Savonne, a DJ from Kiss 100 FM at the Kiss Nite Out at the Paradise Club, Islington. The music then was House/Garage. Kevin Reese Saunderson was a very influential artist for Peshay. One particular track cites Peshay was Direct Me on Network Records. That track cut me up cites Peshay! The vibe, and everything about it. One of his all time favourite tracks.

 

At this time, Peshay met Baby Kane, a very talented producer from Walthamstow, east London. They went into the studio together at the beginning of 1991 and wrote Quarter to Doom on Ruff Guidance Records, Baby Kane label. Following on from that Peshay met and become Friends with LTJ Bukem in the middle of 1991. Peshay also at the time (late 1991) embarks on his DJ career. Gigs like, Bassbox and Roller express in Edmonton north London. Gigs like the living dream alongside Fabio, Grooverider, Randall and Face in 1991 starting Peshays DJ career. |Peshay then went on to playing different venues in London, Such as, The Astoria, Tasco warehouse and Shaftsburys to name but a few. Peshay then got involved with Bukems label, then just started, Good Looking Records Also at the time Peshay teamed up with Bizzy B from brain Records, to make a 4 track record called 2 Dope EP Also at this time Peshay met Goldie, then was working with Reinforced Records, with such artists like Manix, 4 Hero and Tek 9. After meeting Goldie, Goldie then cited Peshay as his Protégé, thus, why Peshay's four tracks EP that came out on Reinforced Records was the Protégé EP in 1992. At this point Peshay was becoming a major player in the Dance movement.

 

In the middle of 1992, Peshay went on to make a 12 release with LTJ Bukem called 19.5, a very influential track that went on to be one of the biggest sellers on GLR. This 12 gained mass support from the likes of Grooverider, Fabio, Bryan G, Jumping Jack Frost, Micky Finn and many many more! Then followed the second release of Goldies newly launched label Metalheadz  Psychosis/Represent. Peshay then established himself as an artist on Metalheadz and GLR. Then followed in late 1993 for GLR Piano Tune/Vocal tune, Piano Tune being a classic rave anthem and Vocal Tune sampling India (master at work) Love and Happiness one of Peshays first outings with strong House influence, using a full vocal. These releases cemented Peshay as a front running artist in the newly termed music Drum and Bass After that followed releases such as Predator/On the Nile , Metalheadz 96 and various remixes for Goldies Inner City life, Angel and Jah. Peshay also remixed Bukems seminal track music with Jazz lick on the flip, also gaining world wide support from Djs worldwide.  

 

Peshay then went on to sign a major deal with Mo Wax/A&M in 1996, which would be a rollercoaster ride of major record company politics, which would not see the album release delayed until 99. During this time in 97 Peshay released possibly one of his biggest tracks to date Miles from home which fused Jazz with Drum & Bass. This track was played everywhere by everyone, being an anthem at the legendary Metalheadz Sunday Sessions at the Blue note Hoxton Square. Also during this time Peshay did various releases and remixes for the likes of V Records, Bryan Gs label, featuring also on the critically acclaimed  Planet V album -Planet V/Vegas, also a remix of DJ Dies Classic Autumn. After the delay with the Miles from home album, Peshay then was moved to Island records with Ross Allen as the head of the newly started subsidiary Blue Records.

Peshay worked during this time with Kym Mazelle and Valerie Ettienne to critical acclaim. Peshay then went on a world tour playing in Countries such as Japan, Austrtria, America and Europe wide. Since then Peshay then released on his own newly started imprint in 2002 Cubik music from that album came the Top 40 hit U got me burning which was featured on Radio One day time play list. Played by DJs like Fabio and Grooverider, Mary Anne Hobbs, Jo Wiley, Chris Moyes and Dave Pearce who made it his Drive time single of the week two weeks running! This track gained support from all the top Drum and Bass DJs.

 

Peshay then embarked on another world tour to promote the album, going all over the world from Australia to Ireland. Peshay draws on his House influence from back in the days to great effect. The album getting great reviews all over the world from Music, Mix Mag, DJ, Jockey Slut, &, Knowledge, ATM to name but a few.

 

In 2004, Peshay returned with an album released end of October 2004 called Jammin, a blend of flavours ranging from House, Jazz, Calypso, Reggae, Latin and Charleston. Peshay cites that he wanted to include different flavours because that is what he is about!  I dont like the same thing all the time, states Peshay, I like to keep reinventing  myself to keep things fresh The First single to be released from the album was a track called Jammin, a carnival type track with a cheeky calypso breakdown. Air horns and bongos feature to create one of the biggest tracks of 2004, reaching number one infamous Vinyl Killers Radio 1 chart on Fabio and Grooveriders show.

 

Peshay is actually working on album with live musicians which will incorporate DnB, House, Disco, Soul, Funk, Reggae, Jazz and latin flavours. Through a range of tempos in between 90 and 170 bpm, this album project will incorporate diverse vocalist productions in songs together with vocalists from varied genres. The musicians on this album are ranging from Poland, Switzerland, Germany and other countries. Peshay states: Diversity is now the main goal!

 

Besides his album project he is joining DJ SS´ Formation Label, with a couple of fresh DnB tunes to be released early 2006.
